Structures for facilitating student reflection. College Teaching, 51 1 , Hibbert P. Approaching reflexivity through reflection: issues for critical management education. Journal of Management Education, 37 6 , Jenny Moon's handbook fulfils its aims remarkably well considering the amorphous nature of her subject matter. It proves to be a useful guide to understanding and using reflective and experiential learning, looking both at theory and practical implementation. Jenny Moon adopts a fairly broad definition of the terms reflective and experiential learning and thus makes her book relevant to a wide range of people such as those engaged in PBL, placement learning, peer and self-assessment, education and drama courses, or indeed anyone trying to embed some formal reflective or experiential learning in their courses.

It is also designed to aid those engaged in professional development, whether they be individuals seeking to improve their own practice in this area or those who work in educational development. Both types of reader will appreciate the clarity of the writing and the way the book organised so that it can be used in different ways at different times.

Theorizing about such broad and slippery topics as reflective and experiential learning has to be kept fairly general.

Indeed, on several occasions I was glad Jenny Moon had kept the concepts as open-ended as she does, because I found myself able to apply the ideas to diverse contexts within my own work.
